Balance

My Grandmother always told me about the 5 lbs. she lost. Over the years, you'd think the woman would have blown away; but quite the opposite - she hovered around the same weight for as long as I can remember.

I feel the same about always sharing successes - I don't want to only share the successes, but the failures too - it's a more balanced picture I feel.

I did submit to the following show: 2010 From Our Perspectives National Women’s Art Exhibition and was not one of the 41 out of 350 selected for the show. (Thanks Kathi Talley for encouraging me to submit all the same - your faith in my work means more to me anyway!)

It was ironic in the fact that Gilda Snowden (a noted Detroit artist), was the guest/honorary judge for the show - she produced (Willis Gallery Director), one of my mother's one woman shows in Detroit back in the early 80's. This adds a level of respect to the venue in my mind - even though it didn't turn out well for me personally!

Marietta, sorry about you not getting into the show. You win some you lose some (mostly the latter in my case). I try not to let it put me off entering but it's quite an expensive business for me - the entry fee plus the travel down to London two or three times (drop off, see show, pick up). Yes, it often seems arbitrary - the selection process - but it does give you a kick when you are one of the chosen few! Plan for next year!
